Tuesday Tips: Christmas Wreath Hairstyle

Today we are trying a beautiful Christmas wreath hairstyle!  I love the corkscrew braid continuing around the front of the head.  So pretty!  Use our Poinsettia Clip (as seen in the photo) or another bow to finish off the wreath look.  It would also be cute with little mini-bows or flowers tucked in around the circle.  You could incorporate a long ribbon as part of the twist to add extra dimension.  You could do a smaller/tighter twist on top of the head and use it as an angel halo!  Or try leaving half of the hair down?  So many possibilities!

This is a gorgeous style for any time of year.  Wouldn't it be particularly amazing for a wedding??  OOo!OOo!  - Then add one of our head wreaths!

Send us pics!  We would love to see your version!

Friday Features: Hot Buns Accessory

Hot Buns (it's not what you think!) is one of those "As Seen on TV" products.  They do have them at walmart and other stores now.

HERE they are on Amazon.  Their reviews average 3 out of 5 stars and you can read them there.
There are dark brown and blonde colors available.  There are 2 sizes.  I used the large size on her head today.  Hot Buns are great for quickly creating a full, doughnut shaped bun.  It is very easy and doesn't require bobby pins.  You can also use a sock (like our sock bun curling post here), but I do like the velcro-type feelers on these.  They hang on to the hairs and make it easy to get it smooth and even.  I'm happy to report that they don't rip the hair when you take out the bun.
1. Make a ponytail.
2.  Wrap the end of the ponytail around the accessory.
3.  Roll it up.  You can start low and roll upward, or pull the ponytail up first and then roll downward.
4.  Circle it around and snap it closed.
5.  Pull the hair around evenly if needed.
6.  Add a bow!
There is an extra step that I don't bother with - it has an elastic that you wrap around the whole bun when you are done wrapping up the hair.  It doesn't seem to affect anything and I think it is unnecessary.

This is the final product, with no hair spray or bobby pins.  Not too bad for a quick style for school or dance!  This bow is an item that may show up on bowsweet.com if there is interest.  (It can be used as a bow tie for the little boys or wrapped around the bun for the girls!)
Have you tried it?  Let us know how it goes!

NMJ Crochet Creations is a shop full of crochet goodness including hats, blankets, dresses, sandals, and even a cabbage patch hat! HA! Check out all the cuteness HERE.
Nichole is the owner/creator of NMJ Crochet Creations.  Here's a little bit about her:
"I am a stay at home mother to 5 little ones! I love to crochet and have been crocheting for as long as I can remember. My Grandmother taught me the basic stitches when I was younger and I took what she showed me to the next level! I am now teaching my daughters to crochet as well. Working a full time job and trying to do everything I wanted for my children was beginning to be a total hassle so I decided to quit my job, stay home with my babies, and open and etsy shop! I now have a full time business doing what I love and get to stay at home with my angels!"

OK - these. are. ADORABLE!  Nichole has graciously offered to giveaway a pair of crochet baby booties!  The winner can choose any baby booties from her site.
That's not all! Nichole is offering a coupon code to anyone who reads this. How awesome is that?! Enter the code

Tuesday Tips: Headband Storage Ideas

Headbands can take up a lot of space and create a mess!  Here's are some ideas that could help organize and take care of your headbands!

Slip your headbands over the top of a vase - seen HERE.
A large, clear jar like this works great for stashing headbands away in a hurry, and can add some color and interest to your bathroom decor.  It would be best for headbands with little/no embellishments on them.  It could be used to soft headbands too.
If you would like them tucked away in a drawer like this, try using a 2 liter soda container!
Certainly, the most popular method is creating a headband holder using an oatmeal container (perfect size) and scrapbook paper or fabric.  You can even use the inside for soft headbands, brushes and combs, or any other hair products that need to be stored.  There are many versions on the web, and here are some great ones.
HERE is a simple explanation.
HERE is a step by step tutorial.
HERE is one that was sectioned off for various types of hair items.
HERE is super pretty one!
HERE is a tutorial for a hanging headband holder with elastic loops.
HERE is an actual product specifically designed to solve the headband storage issue.

How do I store them?  I have headband stands that my hunky husband made with me!  We used PVC, a simple wooden platform, dowels, and velvet.  You can vary the height and it looks fabulous!
As you may guess, my girls have a LOT of hair accessories!  I have tried many ways of organizing and keeping them nice.  I have settled on these stackable drawers from the Container Store.  I LOVE them!  They fit perfectly on our linen closet shelves and my girls can use them easily!  They are very sturdy and they are roomy enough to fit headbands.  Can you see the white headband in there?
How do you store your headbands?  We'd love to know and maybe even add it to our list!

Tuesday Tips: Hair Tools Storage

Do your iron and blow dryer permanently live on your counter?  Are you wishing you had more counter space?  Here are some storage ideas I have found.
When we were first married, we didn't have ANY counter space in our bathroom and only a pedestal sink.  My blow dryer would actually end up IN the sink many, many times.  I know, SCARY, right?!  I'm glad we survived that.  Now my tools are thrown in a basket under the sink, but I would love to find something more useful, easily accessible, and that will help with my mess of tangled cords.
Maybe I'll actually put them away if there is a great place for them!

Here are some ideas I found...

If you like something to hang on the wall, you could try this cabinet.  It has a mirror and cubbies for hair products.  Everything is plugged in and ready to turn on with a flip of the switch on a surge protector.  Question to self: would I actually trust it and leave them plugged in and turning off the surge protector?  There is a bit of relief and satisfaction that comes from yanking the cord out of the wall!   They have it in white and espresso at Lowe's for $129.
This is definitely a cheaper way to go - just pvc attached to the inside of the cabinet door!
Boy, I may have to look into this next one.  The fake front on my cabinet is a lot smaller than this one, so I'm not sure if it would work.  It looks fabulous though!  This site gives you a little bit of a 'how to' on this project.
Amy over at the The Idea Room came up with this solution.  It totally looks like it has always been part of the space.  She gives all the links and info you need to make your own!
Here's something that looks like it would be pretty easy to install.  And it slides out!  Love that.  $150 + shipping though, hmmm….
Here is something from BB&B for $20 that can hook on to a rod, or door, or just sit on the counter.  Not my favorite idea though - I am looking for a more permanent fixture.
There are even more ideas out there!  I think I'll keep searching…
How do you store your hair tools?

Black Friday through Cyber Monday Sale!

Tuesday Tips: How to Clean Your Hair Brushes/Combs

1.  Remove all the hair from your brush.  You can pull it out with your hands, but I also like to use a comb - start at the base of the bristles and pull up the hairs.  For really tight hairs, you can even use a toothpick to loosen them.  WARNING:  Gross picture!  EW!!!
 2.  Soak your brushes and combs in a bath of equal parts vinegar and warm water in a bowl or mug for about 15 minutes.  You could also use water with some drops of shampoo instead of vinegar.  Soaking your brushes and combs will break up any oily deposits and lingering hair product.  If you have a brush with a wooden handle, or natural boar bristles, lightly scrub them under running water instead of soaking.  The wood can split and the boar bristles may curl.
 3.  Lightly scrub off any leftover deposits on the base and bristles.
4.  Rinse with clean water and dry on a towel.

Happy cleaning!

Get ready for some awesomeness in this next giveaway!
Seriously,.. you're gonna love it!

This giveaway comes from Fancy Ewe Wearables.  Kacey is the owner/designer/creator, and boy, is she TALENTED!  I'm not sure how she does it all.  The Fancy Ewe blog is full of fashion tips, DIY, recipes, amazing products, and all kinds of country fun including lambs and bees!

About Kacey:
'My hubby and I have been self employed in the construction business since 2006.  In 2008 when construction was slow, I decided to make aprons to help out with Christmas gifts. They sold so well that I decided to make it a business and have been making them ever since. I fell in love with being an entrepreneur! I have ventured out into clothing design and manufacturing, but still love the hand made aprons. I love high fashion and runway trends, but am really a farm girl at heart. I am a "work at home mom" with 3 kids who are my life.'

Kacey has even designed gorgeous dresses for Shabby Apple!
Doesn't this dress just make you want to twirl?

Without further ado, here it is!...
Kacey has offered one of her absolutely fabulous peplum aprons for this week's giveaway!
Choose the fabric and the size (S, M, L, or XL).
Wouldn't it make the best Christmas gift?!  Unless you wanna keep it - we won't tell.
